KMC focusing on heritage conservation: Mayor Shakya

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is focused on tourism promotion by connecting the heritages within the Kathmandu Valley with those in outside districts.

KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said this while laying the foundation stone of the extension block of the Naghal-based Dharmakirti Vihara at the KMC, ward no. 25 today. On the occasion, he said the KMC has kept heritage conservation and protection in top priority.

Mayor Shakya added that the income level of the locals would be enhanced by means of heritage conservation and promoting its tourism.

He also assured that there would not be any shortage of resources for keeping the Guthi tradition alive by conserving the indigenous cultural heritages as ‘kwah pa’, ‘dyoh chhein’, ‘bahi’ and ‘sattal’.

“We have established sister-city relations recently with Ramgram town of Lumbini Province. We have also allocated Rs 15 million for the construction of Koliya Peace Garden at Panditpur where the Buddha’s maternal uncle’s house is located,” Mayor Shakya said.

The annex block would be constructed at a cost of Rs 42.8 million.
