NA airlifts 1,500 kg trash to Kathmandu from Everest region



KATHMANDU: Bags full of garbage, collected from Khumbu region as a part of the first phase of the Mt. Everest Clean-up Campaign, have been airlifted to Kathmandu through a chopper of Nepal Army (NA).

According to NA Spokesperson Brigadier General Bigyan Dev Pandey, 1,500 kg of trash was brought to the Capital City. It is the first instance NA used its helicopter to bring the garbage.

NA personnel have been deployed at Mt. Everest region for clearing trash to mark 12th International Mt. Everest Day. NA handed over the waste to Blue Waste to Value for recycling.

Different organizations, local units along with NA have participated in the Everest Clean-up Campaign that kicked off on April 14. The campaign will continue till June 5.

The collected trash will be exhibited in Namche on May 29 coinciding it with the International Mt. Everest Day and in Kathmandu on June 5 on the occasion of World Environment Day. A total of 10 tons of waste is supposed to be collected as a part of the campaign.
