Nepal, China to simultaneously announce height of Mt Everest



KATHMANDU: Nepal and China are set to release a report on the height of Mt Everest at the same time.

Both countries have completed the measurement of the height of the highest peak of the world  using separate means and resources.

The two countries are preparing to make their reports public at the same time, according to the Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation.

According to the ministry, the Chinese government has measured the height of third pole separately in coordination and agreement with the Nepal government.

While Nepal had reached the final stage of measuring Everest, China had also started measuring from the northern face.

Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Padma Aryal said that both Nepal and China were preparing to make the height of Mt Everest public at the same time.

The Chinese team had reached the summit on May 27, 2020, to measure the height of Everest and the Nepali surveyor team had reached the summit on May 22, 2019.
