Linking education with vocational skills a must: Wagle

KATHMANDU: Various stakeholders have underlined the need to link Nepal’s education policy with skills and labor. Speaking at an interaction on ‘Nepal’s present education system and today’s necessary education policy’ organized by Sanchar Kendra Nepal on Thursday, member-secretary of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) Pushpa Raman Wagle said that Nepal’s future education system should be focused on boosting production and producing competent human resource.

Noting the need of expansion of institutions offering technical and vocational education, he shared CTEVT now has the capacity to enroll 2015 students. He also claimed tht the CTEVT is moving ahead in line with the federal structure of the country. “Our program has reached to 101 local level programme in the past one year. Immediate Past President of Nepal Student Union (NSU) Nain Singh Mahar highlighted the need of morality-based humanistic education system in the country to address several challenges facing the education sector of Nepal.

In lack of technical and vocational skills, Nepali youths in foreign employment are also facing different troubles, he added. Also speaking on the occasion, Guardian Association Suprabhat Bhandari said even the community schools are charging fee from students through the government announced education up to grade 8 free and compulsory.. He also asserted that the middle-income people in Nepal are facing a tough time due to unhealthy competition in the crucial sectors such as education, health.
