Demonstrations in front of Chinese Embassy against ‘encroachment’



KATHMANDU: Demonstrations have been staged in Kathmandu against alleged encroachment of Nepali territory by China.

The Nepal Republic Party on Tuesday held a protest in front of the Chinese Embassy.

Participants chanted anti-China slogans—Return Nepal’s land, stop Chinese expansionism and return Communist China from the Nepal-Tibet border in Humla.

Protesters hold a banner with anti-China slogans during the demonstration.

The party, joined by supporters, chanted “Go back China” and shouted anti-China slogans such as “Down with Chinese intervention and imperialism,” among others.

Likewise, the participants also expressed their indignation against China, alleging China for interfering in Nepal’s internal affairs.

The participants also chanted anti-China slogans calling for the immediate return of Nepal’s land, and dubbed the move as Chinese “expansionism”.

China has reportedly constructed nine buildings illegally in at Limi rural municipality of Namkha Municipality of Humla district.

According to Bishnu Bahadur Lama, Chairman of Namkha Village Rural Municipality, the construction work is in full swing.

He further informed that the Chinese side had unilaterally constructed nine commercial buildings in Nepali territory.

“Even though I tried to reach an understanding with the responsible official of the Chinese side, that attempt was not successful,” he said.
