Cabinet meeting stalls trade union elections



KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting held on Tuesday morning has decided to perform final rites of Ang Rita Sherpa with state honors. Popularly known as ‘The Snow Leopard’ Sherpa died on Monday morning.

According to a minister privy to the meeting, the government will perform the final rites of Sherpa with honors and bear the cost of funeral rites.

Similarly, the cabinet meeting has also postponed the election of trade union due to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was widely speculated that the government would extend the term of the  National Reconstruction Authorit by a year.

A steering committee meeting the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) had on Monday recommended to extend the tenure of the Authority by a year.

The17th committee meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Oli took the decision to recommend the Council of Ministers for the extension by a year.

NRA Chief Executive Officer Sushil Gyawali stated that the committee decided to recommend for tenure extension in a way to complete the reconstruction of private houses and important structures including Dharahara which was adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
