Update: Death toll in Sindhupalchowk landslide reaches 9; 22 missing



SINDHUPALCHOWK: The dead bodies of nine people who went missing in a landslide in Barhabise Municipality-7 of Sindhupalchowk have been retrieved as of Sunday afternoon.

The deceased are identified as Tyakshi Sherpa, 97, Gyani Maya Pradhan, 42, Bhaktimaya Shrestha, 62, Junu BK, 23, Suklal BK, 24, Sandesh BK, 24, Sarkini Newar, 8, Dhanlal Newar, 65, and Tashi Sherpa, 65.

Another 24 people are missing in the landslide triggered by insistent rainfall, said Spokesperson at District Police Office, Sindhupalchowk DSP Prakash Sapkota.

DSP Sapkota said that the personnel of the Nepal Army, Armed Force and Nepal Police, people’s representatives and locals were continuing the search and rescue operation.

According to Nimfunjo Sherpa, Chief of Barhabise Municipality, the landslide has completely damaged 30 houses, while 222 homes are at risk.
