India sets world record with single-day spike of 79,000 cases

NEW DELHI: In the highest single-day surge recorded in any country so far, India added nearly 79,000 fresh cases to its Covid-19 tally on Saturday.

India’s COVID-19 caseload has reached 3.53 million with 78,903 cases confirmed in the last 24 hours.

At 78,903 fresh cases, Saturday’s Covid-19 numbers in India went past the previous highest single-day count of 78,427 infections reported in the US on July 25, when that country was witnessing its biggest surge of the virus, Times of India reported.

Of the total infected, 2.7 million have recovered so far while 763,535 are receiving treatment.

Meanwhile, the death toll in India had risen to 63,657 with 944 deaths in the last 24 hours.
