Butwal Corona Special Hospital becomes first hospital to start plasma therapy treatment in Province 5

BUTWAL: Making itself the first hospital to start plasma therapy method for the treatment of coronavirus pandemic in Province 5, Butwal Corona Special Hospital run by Lumbini Provincial Hospital has started the plasma therapy service from Monday.

Dr. Sudarshan Thapa, the focal person of the Butwal based Corona Special Hospital, believes that the plasma therapy can help the medics treat the COVID-19 patients in critical condition.

“Butwal’s Corona Special Hospital is busy providing service to the coronavirus positive patients,” he said, adding, “We feel under pressure with the mounting number of cases, however, the plasma therapy method, the first in Province No 5, will surely help us treat even the patients in critical condition.”

Plasma therapy treatment is the method of enhancing the patient’s antibody against the virus by injecting the plasma of the persons who have developed the antibody to fight against it after being healed of it.

The method has been used for the treatment of coronavirus patients in India, UK and has got permission in USA as well.

Although the result of the treatment are not much encouraging its regarded as the ray of hope for the treatment of the coronavirus hard- hit patients.

There are 14 people in ICU and 23 in isolation in the province.

TU Teaching Hospital of Kathmandu and BPKIHS Dharan have been providing service using this method these days.
