Jugal landslide update: Two bodies retrieved from Lidi landslide

SINDHUPALCHOWK: Two bodies have been recovered from the landslide that occurred at Lidi of Jugal rural municipality in Sindhupalchowk district on Friday morning.

As many as 13 houses were buried by a landslide that struck at Lidi village of Jugal rural municipality in Sindhupalchowk district at 6 am today.

“A total of 21 people from five houses have gone missing in the landslide. Two bodies have been recovered whle five rescued alive. The condtion of three among those rescued is critical. The details are yet to come,” said SP Madhav Prasad Kafle of DPO, Sindhupalchowk.

Earlier, Rural municipality chief Narayan Shrestha had said family members of five houses went  missing after the landslide hit Lidi village.

According to Sirjana Tamang, Deputy Chief of the rural municipality, 15 people injured in the landslide have managed to come out of the landslide themselves.

“It is still difficult to carry out rescue operations. The people of five houses still out of contact”, said Ash Bahadur Tamang, a local, from the incident site.

People of the other houses buried by the landslide have taken shelter on a hillock nearby above the incident site for safety.

A rescue team from Nepal Police, Nepal Army and Armed Police Force has reached the incident site and are carrying out rescue work, said Administrative Officer Sunita Pahari of District Administration Office.
