Kathmandu Valley logs 87 new COVID-19 cases



KATHMANDU: As many as 87 more people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Kathmandu Valley in the last 24 hours.

Speaking at a regular press briefing on Thursday afternoon, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said that 76 cases have been confirmed in Kathmandu, 10 in Lalitpur and one in Bhaktapur.

Tests conducted at the National Public Health Laboratory confirmed infection in 25 people from Kathmandu and one from Bhaktapur, two from Lalitpur and 15 from Kathmandu tested positive at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital.

Dr. Gautam said that tests at Vector-Borne Disease Research & Training Centre, Hetauda confirmed infection in one person from Kathmandu.

Likewise, three from Kathmandu tested positive in tests at Bir Hospital, five from Kathmandu at TU Teaching Hospital, 13 from Kathmandu at Nepal Police Hospital, four from Kathmandu and one from Lalitpur at Star Hospital, four from Lalitpur at BIDH Lab and nine from Kathmandu and one from Lalitpur at HAMS Hospital.

According to Dr. Gautam, tests at Birendra Military Hospital confirmed one from Kathmandu to have contracted coronavirus.

The COVID-19 national tally reached 21,750 with 360 new cases on Thursday.

Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll stands at 65.

Meanwhile, the ministry has appealed not to hold meetings and conferences due to the increase in coronavirus infection while requesting to hold a virtual meeting, if necessary.
