Health Ministry warns of suicidal consequences with people defying public health standards

KATHMANDU: The government has warned of dire consequences with the general people flatly defying basic public health standards for COVID-19.

Following the relaxation of around four-month-long lockdown recently, the general people have been found not properly following health safety measures.

The general public is seen neither wearing facemasks and nor maintaining social distancing thus increasing the risks.

Pointing out at increasing risks, the Ministry of Health and Population has shown serious concern on timely alertness.

People’s negligence towards the infection might be suicidal, said Prof Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, Spokesperson for the Ministry.

People are lately found to have been breached the government’s rules such as the ban of gathering in a group of more than 25 people over the infection, he said.

“Moreover, people are found to have organized seminars, meetings, demonstrations and religious programs against the government’s COVID-19 rules,” he said, adding that as a result, there is high risk of the infection fast spreading.

Sit-ins taking place in the Kathmandu Valley putting forth various demands have also increased the risks, he said.

He urged the people to strictly follow the COVID-19 rules and take maximum caution against the infection.
