General Convention a solution to NCP intra-party feud: Nembang

KATHMANDU: Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Subas Nembang has said no leaders have disagreed with the idea of early holding of the party’s general convention.

At a time when Dahal-Nepal camp is relentlessly piling pressure on Prime Minister KP Oli to resign from both of his posts, Nembang has clarified that Prime Minister Oli’s resignation is not the solution to the existing stalemate of the party.

“Let’s hold the party’s general convention to elect a new chairman and go for the general election as per the Constitution to elect a new prime minister,” said Nembang, who is also the Standing Committee (SC) member of the NCP.

Earlier, it was revealed that Prime Minister Oli had recommended Nembang’s name for the prime minister if he had to resign from his post.

When asked about this recommendation, Nembang said, “I have never thought of it and this is not a relevant issue in the present context, as well. This is the time when we have to stand united for the interest of country and the people.”

Nembang made it clear that Dahal and Oli should come into terms to thrash out their differences on some thorny issues and for the party unity.

“Some issues which cannot be ironed out immediately can be resolved through the upcoming general convention as well,” said Nembang.

However, many NCP leaders do not see the possibility of early holding of the general convention.

Dahal-Nepal camp has been demanding that Oli has to at least resign from one of his posts as a condition to settle the intra-party feud.

On the other hand, Oli is adamant not to resign from any one of his posts.

The intra-party feud which escalated in the ruling NCP after Oli tried to end the parliament session through ordinances, has deepened further of late.
