Sujan Chapagain clarifies viral chat controversy, says social media may have been misused

KATHMANDU: Singer Sujan Chapagain has publicly responded for the first time after facing allegations on social media over the past few days that he sent obscene and inappropriate messages to various women and teenage girls.

In a statement shared through social media, Chapagain acknowledged that some messages had been exchanged with people he considered close friends and apologized for the situation that followed. However, he denied that all of the content circulating online belonged to him.

Currently in Australia for a musical tour with his band Sujan Chapagain and The Infinity, the singer said that the issue surrounding the release of private messages had left him deeply concerned and saddened.

Chapagain stated that he is not the only person managing his social media accounts and claimed that social media managers have also handled the accounts at different times.

Based on his preliminary assessment, he said there may have been misuse of the accounts. He also expressed concern that activities carried out through multiple fake accounts operating in his name could have contributed to the controversy.

Describing such activities as unethical and irresponsible, Chapagain said he has already initiated an investigation process. He further stated that after completing his musical tour in Australia, he will return to Nepal and move forward with legal action.
