Man tonsured in Varanasi is not Nepali



KATHMANDU: It has been revealed that the man tonsured in Varanasi, India is not Nepali.

Varanasi Police has now confirmed that the man in the video is an Indian national, adding that six people have been arrested over the matter.

Indian media reported that the incident was preplanned.

As per reports, the youth was contacted by a few political leaders and was told that his services are required for a couple of hours at Ganga Ghat. He was told that there is some event where he would have tonsure his head chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. For his services, he would be given IRs 1000.

“The man in the video is a registered voter of Varanasi (and not Nepali) and his parents used to work in Jal Sansthan. He was given IRs 1000 to play his part,” said Varanasi SSP Amit Pathak.

In the video, the man is seen sitting near a river and purportedly being forced to shout slogans against Nepal and its PM Oli.

He is also made to praise India for providing “livelihood opportunities to Nepali nationals.”
