No COVID-19 community transmission in Kathmandu Valley: Health Ministry



KATHMANDU: Amid the rumors about the coronavirus pandemic’s community-level transmission in Kathmandu Valley, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has maintained that there is no such transmission in the Valley.

Speaking at the regular update of the Ministry, Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam assured that there is no instance of community-level transmission in the Capital Valley.

Claiming that the Ministry has executed 4,800 PCR tests in the communities thought vulnerable in the Valley, Dr. Gautam stated that there is no need to panic of the community transmission as the tests revealed that there are no such facts.

“We collected 4,800 samples from the places regarded as vulnerable in the Valley, but the tests proved that there is no community-level transmission here,” Dr. Gautam said.

According to Spokesperson Gautam, the community level tests came out with only 3 coronavirus positive cases in the Valley out of which two are the people who are the returnees from abroad.

He added that a third case is a person working in a beauty parlor here.

However, Dr. Gautam regards it vital to abide by precautionary directives against the coronavirus pandemic.

“Although there is no community transmission case in the Valley, it’s crucial to follow high alertness while traveling to the crowded areas as returning to normalcy can take some more time,” he added.

Dr. Gautam advises all to maintain social distancing and keeping one another at least two meters away, wash hands more frequently and use masks while coming out from home and avoid visiting crowded areas as preventive measures against the pandemic spread.
