Speaker Sapkota calls all to involve in rescue and relief tasks



KATHMANDU: Speaker of House of Representatives (HoR) Agni Prasad Sapkota has called upon lawmakers and all stakeholders to involve in rescue, relief and rehabilitation tasks for the people affected by the natural disasters.

Issuing an appeal on Sunday, Speaker Sapkota requested the lawmakers to take initiatives from their respective places by coordinating with federal, states and local levels during the disasters and added that the roles played by states and local levels during such an hour were significant and praiseworthy.

The appeal reads, “I request all to use available means, resources and mechanisms to adopt high alertness at disaster-prone areas, to make preparedness, to develop early information system to be safe from the disaster.”

Saying that the government has been taking initiative for preparedness, rescue of the injured, their treatment, relief and rehabilitation of the displaced ones, Speaker Sapkota said that it was necessary to make it qualitative.

He drew the government’s attention to launch special campaign to search the missing people as well as to resume traffic along obstructed road sections.

He also appealed to all people living at disaster risk areas to adopt special alertness as monsoon is still active.

Dozens of people including 20 of Sindhupalchowk are still missing. Number of deceased and injured people is continuously increasing.

Some 800 families in Gulmi, Sankhuwasabha, Lamjung, Kavrepalanchowk, Rukum West, Gorkha, Parbat as well as hilly and mountainous districts have ben displaced.

Districts in Tarai have been inundated and 88 people of 19 districts have lost their lives in landslide, flood following incessant rainfall in one month.
