COVID-19 cases mounting in Sudurpaschim Province



DHANGADHI: In the past one week, the Sudurpaschim Province reported 1,393 new cases of coronavirus. According to the Health Division under the Social Development Ministry, the number of coronavirus positive cases reached 3,469 till Saturday.

The infection rate is rising in Darchula, Kailali, Doti, Bajura, Dadeldhura, Baitadi, Kanchanpur, Accham and Bajhag districts. To date, Kaiali has the highest infections (916) followed by 554 in Achham, 514 in Doti, 400 in Kanchanpur, 390 in Bajura, 280 in Baitadi, 259 in Dadeldhura, 139 in Bajahng and 17 in Darchula.
Kailali probably reports the highest cases across the country.

Similarly, seven people have succumbed to the virus so far in the Province while 586 have defeated it. Till Saturday, the number of tested cases through PCR procedure was 22,147.

It is said the infection risk has further increased with the government’s decision to ease the lockdown which led to the escalation of people’s movement. The most affected people belong to 20-29 age group as their tally is counted at 1,537 of the total infected, suggested the data from the Health Directorate, Dipayal.

Meanwhile, COVID-19 CICT Center for searching and surveying for patients is to be established at the Health Training Center, Dhangadhi. The Center is to coordinate with health institutions and other related organizations for the prevention of virus.
