Study begins on entry of locusts in Nepal



KATHMANDU: The scientists and officials have confirmed the entry of locusts in different districts in the country on Saturday. The locusts that destroy the agricultural crops are looked as a severe threat to the country’s farming sector.

Agriculture scientists have started studies on locusts after the insects entered in different districts of the State No. 2.

Likewise, the officials in State 5 confirmed the arrival of the insects in Rupandehi and Palpa districts too.

According to State Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Yogendra Raya Yadav said that

Director of State Agriculture Directorate Ratan Kumar Jha-led team has commenced its study on the locusts.

The agriculture scientists have started their job by staying at Oil Crops Research Center in Sarlahi district confirming the entry of locusts’ swarms in different districts of the State on Saturday morning.

The scientists are expected to confirm the point of the locusts’ entry point, number and basis for its control.
Secretary at the Ministry of Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives in State No. 5 Tej Bahadur Subedi said
that swarms of the locusts entered in Rupandehi from early morning.

Minister for Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Arati Poudel said that different measures would be taken for the control of the locusts and damage control.
