Demonstrations in Rautahat, Saptari against Citizenship Bill

RAUTAHAT: Demonstrations have taken place in Rautahat and Saptari demanding the repeal of the proposed bill to grant naturalized citizenship to a foreign woman marrying a Nepali citizen after seven years.

A demonstration against the bill was organized by Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal (JSP) at Garuda Bazaar in Rautahat.

The protestors alleged that the government had dared to sever ties with India by passing the bill in a conspiratorial manner.

Meanwhile, youths and students associated with the party have burnt the effigy of Prime Minister KP Oli at Rajbiraj, the district headquarters of Saptari, on Tuesday evening, saying that the bill is discriminatory.

They have burnt the effigy at the local Netachowk after the demonstration in Rajbiraj demanding the repeal of the bill. Police in riot gear stormed the rally and clashed with the protestors.
