10,000 tests will be carried out daily from June 29: Health Minister Dhakal

KATHMANDU: Health Minister Bhanubhakta Dhakal has said that the local levels have spent around Rs 2.76 billion on various topics including quarantine management for coronavirus control.

Speaking in the parliament on Monday, Minister Dhakal said that the amount has been spent for coronavirus control through 641 local units.

Similarly, provinces have spent Rs 1.08 billion and federal government Rs 6.03 billion so far.

He said that the amount spent by the central government was on bringing the infected people to isolation and operation of the COVID-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC).

Minister Dhakal also informed that the Ministry of Health has already spent Rs 2.92 billion on the purchase of health items, adding that all the expenditures made by the Ministry were transparent.

On a separate note, Minister Dhakal said that coronavirus infection is more prevalent among the youths in Nepal.
Minister Dhakal said that more people in Nepal between the ages of 21 and 30 have been infected.

Similarly, people in the age group of 11 to 20 years are second-most affected and people in the age group of 31 to 40 years are third-most affected.

Minister Dhakal said that coronavirus infection was seen in Nepal from those who went abroad for foreign employment and other reasons.

Minister  Dhakal said that every day 10,000 individuals would be tested through the PCR method from June 29.

Responding to the queries of the lawmakers during deliberations on the appropriation bill for the new fiscal year in the parliament, Minister Dhakal said that the procurement process of the machines has been initiated to test 10,000 individuals on a daily basis.

Minister Dhakal shared that one large machine each would be bought for all seven states.

Currently, 4,000 people are tested daily from labs setup in 21 places across the country. So far, 197,000 people are tested for Corona Virus through PCR methods and 156,991 people through RDT methods.
