We stand shoulder to shoulder with Nepal: Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh

NEW DELHI: Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi and expressed condolences to those who lost their lives in the devastating flash floods that struck Nepal on August 26, 2026.

Singh signed the condolence book at the embassy and extended his deepest condolences, on behalf of the Government and people of India, to the people and government of Nepal over the loss of lives and widespread devastation caused by the disaster.

He said the flash floods had caused significant loss of life and property and affected not only Nepali citizens but also foreign nationals, including Indian citizens. Singh expressed sympathy to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the disaster.

Describing India and Nepal as close friends and partners, Singh said India has always stood by Nepal in both good times and difficult times. “Even in this trying time, we stand shoulder to shoulder with our Nepali brothers and sisters,” Singh wrote in the condolence book, reaffirming India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s search, rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

In his full message, Singh wrote:

“Went to the Embassy of Nepal in New Delhi and expressed my condolences by signing the condolence book. On behalf of the Government and people of India, I extend my deepest condolences to the people of Nepal and their Government, on the loss of precious lives and large-scale devastation caused by the flash flood on 26 August 2026.

This tragic natural calamity has affected citizens of Nepal along with a number of foreign nationals including Indian nationals. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who lost their lives in this disaster. We hope for speedy recovery of those who were injured.

As a close friend and partner, and ‘Sukh Dukh Ke Saathi’, India has always stood by Nepal. In this trying time also, we stand shoulder to shoulder with our Nepali brothers and sisters and are committed to support Nepal’s efforts for search, rescue and rehabilitation.”
