Siraha tense as Home Minister Sudan Gurung heads to meet family of protest victim



KATHMANDU: Tension has emerged between local residents and security personnel in Siraha’s Golbazar after a group of locals surrounded vehicles belonging to security agencies near the house of a teenager who died during a protest.

Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and District Administration Office vehicles had reached the area as part of security arrangements for Home Minister Sudan Gurung, who is scheduled to visit the victim’s family.

Fifteen-year-old Ganesh Yadav of Tulsiyahi in Aurahi Rural Municipality-2, Siraha, died on Thursday after being shot during a demonstration in Golbazar linked to the Sunsari incident.

Locals have been demanding the immediate release of protesters who were detained on charges of disrupting communal harmony during demonstrations seeking justice over the incident.
