KATHMANDU: Chhabi Rijal, the former Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, has been released on the same day he was arrested on Tuesday.
Rijal was arrested over allegations of suppressing the Gen-Z protest held on September 8 and 9, last year. However, the Nepal Police decided to release him on bail after taking a written undertaking that he would appear when summoned.
A team from the Crime Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had arrested Rijal from Subidhanagar and handed him over to the Kathmandu District Police Range.
According to police, he was released on a general date after agreeing to appear before the authorities whenever required.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who were also arrested over allegations related to the crackdown on the Gen-Z protest, remain in custody.
