Nepal Red Cross Society should free itself of politics, stress on neutrality: Home Minister

Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal has urged the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) to carry out its works while remaining aloof from politics. In discussion related to the NRCS at the Ministry today, he instructed the NRCS to work towards resolving the long-standing institutional issues at the central level in accordance with the law and procedures. Home Minister Aryal urged the NRCS Ad-hoc Committee to fulfill the responsibilities assigned to it, hold elections on time, amend the institution’s regulations according to federalism, and ensure impartial performance while keeping the organization free from politics.

Vice President stresses need to enhance quality of public broadcasting

Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav has said that it is necessary for the Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) Nepal to increase the quality and effectiveness of its broadcast content by embracing innovative technology and addressing growing public expectations. At a special function organized today on the occasion of the 41st anniversary of Nepal Television (NTV) under PSB Nepal here today, he said that it is indispensable to continuously expand content, reach, presentation and technology in the current digital age.

The Nepali Congress has said it will incorporate “Vision-10” in its manifesto to be unveiled for the upcoming elections. Speaking at a press conference held at the party office in Sanepa on Saturday, party spokesperson Dev Raj Chalise said the manifesto will reflect the country’s ground realities, with a focus on good governance, development and practical action plans. According to Chalise, the Congress manifesto will not be limited to aspirations and commitments alone. It will also clearly outline the resources, means and mechanisms required for implementation.

KMC to launch home-based health survey for elderly citizens from February 1

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is set to initiate a comprehensive health status survey starting February 1, aimed at providing basic health services directly to the homes of senior citizens aged 70 and above. The initiative specifically targets elderly residents who require assistance, ensuring they receive necessary medical attention without the need to travel to health facilities. In preparation for the rollout, nursing staff assigned to conduct the door-to-door visits have completed specialized training. They have been equipped with necessary medical kits, essential medicines, and digital tablets for real-time data collection.

Unity among communist forces is essential today: Coordinator Dahal

Coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has said that the unity among communist parties has strengthened with the acknowledgment of the necessity for a new national power. While addressing the ‘Election Special Grand Assembly’ held today by the Solu-Kathmandu Liaison Coordination Committee, former Prime Minister Dahal emphasized that the NCP was established to safeguard national sovereignty and counter foreign conspiracies.

Tarai–Madhesh Fast-Track Highway hits 45% completion

The construction of the Tarai–Madhesh Fast-Track Highway has reached 45 percent progress. Managed by the Nepali Army, the project currently reports an overall physical progress of 45.16 percent and financial progress of 45.33 percent. Of the seven tunnels planned at Mahadev Danda, Dhedre, Len Danda, Chandrabhir, Devichaur, Sisautar, and Mauribhir, five are currently under construction. The Nepali Army’s Road Construction Project team confirmed that four tunnels in Dhedre and Len Danda of Makwanpur have already achieved breakthrough.

The pro-unity faction of the Scientific Socialist Communist Party is set to formally merge into the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) today. The group, leaving the Scientific Socialist Communist Party Nepal along with its leadership from central to district levels, will be officially integrated at a program scheduled for 4 PM at the NCP central office in Paris Danda. The leadership joining includes central member and Secretariat official Dhankumari Sunar, who will lead the group. Others joining the NCP include Ganesh Rasaili, central advisory committee member; Yasoda Baral, central member and Far-Western Province coordinator of the women’s organization; and Bikram Sunar, district committee member from Kailali and coordinator of the Caste System Eradication Front.

The start of 2026 has seen gold and silver surge to record highs – only to crash on Friday. Gold prices peaked above US$5,500 (A$7,900) per ounce for the first time on Thursday, well above previous highs. But by the end of Friday, it had dropped to around US$5068 (A$7,282). It hit more than US$120 (A$172) per ounce last week, marking one of its strongest runs in decades, before crashing on Friday to US$98.50 (A$141.50).

These samples are specifically intended for voter education campaigns to ensure citizens are familiar with the layout before heading to the polls.
