Political hype and blame games are routine in Nepal: Gokul Baskota

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Gokul Baskota has said that political hype, misinformation, and blame games are not unique to Nepal, noting that such practices are common even in established democracies like Europe and the United States.

In a Facebook post on Friday morning, Baskota remarked that exaggeration and mutual accusations have become a routine part of Nepal’s political discourse, particularly during election periods.

He also criticized political parties and their leaders for making sweeping claims about winning the upcoming elections and projecting seat numbers, saying such assertions create the impression that no party will finish second.

“Listening to and reading claims of election victory and seat projections, it seems no one will finish second. Everyone appears to have not only won but already formed a single-party government,” he wrote.

Baskota said the actual outcome of the elections would ultimately be determined by voters, adding that premature declarations of victory reflect political exaggeration rather than electoral reality.
