Pillion rider dies in motorbike accident in Jhapa



JHAPA: A pillion rider died after a motorcycle accident on the Mechi Bridge in Mechinagar Municipality-6 on Friday night.

The motorcycle (registration number Pr 1-01-012 Pa 3849), which was heading towards Nepal from India, crashed into a road barricade at around 10:00 pm.

According to Jhapa District Police Office Information Officer Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, the pillion rider, 40-year-old Chetan Katuwal of Mechinagar-6, sustained serious injuries in the accident.

Katuwal was rushed to Mechi AMDA Hospital in Dhulabari for treatment, where doctors declared him dead at 10:55 pm.

The motorcycle rider, 35-year-old Kashinath Paudel of Mechinagar-6, was also injured and has been admitted to B & C Hospital in Birtamod for treatment.

The body of the deceased has been kept at Mechi AMDA Hospital. Police suspect overspeeding as the cause of the accident, and further investigation is underway.
