KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has said that Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s address to the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly drew significant attention from the international community.
Khanal made the remarks while speaking to journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport after returning to Nepal following his participation in the General Assembly.
He said there had been considerable international interest in how Shah, who became Nepal’s youngest prime minister following the country’s recent political developments, would present Nepal on the global stage.
“His address became a headline in news outlets across the globe,” Khanal said. “The video of the Right Honourable Prime Minister’s speech was the most-watched address at this year’s UN General Assembly. This clearly demonstrates the immense interest from around the world.”
Khanal said foreign delegates and diplomats praised the Prime Minister’s address during various formal and informal meetings held in New York following the speech.
According to Khanal, the international community expressed solidarity with the issues and concerns raised by Prime Minister Shah at the international forum.
The Foreign Minister also said the international community had shown keen interest in supporting Nepal’s post-flood reconstruction efforts in the Bhote Koshi region and helping the country address the challenges posed by the climate crisis.
