WHO provides $150,000 worth of emergency health supplies for flood-affected communities

KATHMANDU: The World Health Organization (WHO) has provided emergency health supplies worth $150,000 to communities affected by the devastating floods in Nepal.

The assistance was provided through the WHO South-East Asia Regional Health Emergency Fund to support healthcare services for people affected by the disaster.

“WHO remains committed to continuing its support for emergency response and recovery efforts in Nepal,” said Dr Nilesh Buddha, acting head of the WHO Regional Office for South-East Asia.

He said the WHO had dispatched essential emergency medical supplies to the affected areas within hours of the floods on Bhadra 10.

According to the WHO South-East Asia Regional Office, the assistance includes emergency health supplies and tents capable of supporting the healthcare needs of around 10,000 people for three months.

The WHO has also sent surgical masks, gloves, hand sanitisers and other essential medical supplies to the affected areas.

The organisation has warned that floods could increase the risk of injuries, diarrhoeal diseases, respiratory illnesses, water- and food-borne diseases, and vector-borne diseases.

It has urged authorities and communities to remain vigilant and take timely measures to prevent further health risks following the disaster.
