KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah has expressed serious concern over the recent tragic incidents in Dewanganj of Sunsari, Siraha, and other affected areas, urging all sides to exercise restraint and preserve national unity and social harmony.
Addressing the nation on Thursday evening, Shah expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of Jayaprakash Mehta, Om Prakash Mehta, and Ganesh Yadav, who lost their lives in the incidents. He said health authorities have been instructed to ensure that no effort is spared in providing treatment to the injured and that there is no shortage of medical services.
The Prime Minister said the Ministry of Home Affairs has formed an investigation committee to conduct a fair inquiry into the incidents and reiterated the government’s commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.
“I want to assure everyone that the investigation will be completely impartial and transparent,” he said. “The government is committed to taking strict legal action against those found guilty.”
Shah added that efforts are underway to normalize the situation and prevent any further untoward incidents. He also informed that the National Security Council has met and taken necessary decisions to strengthen peace and security, while the Home Minister has personally visited the affected areas to monitor the situation and communicate with victims and local residents.
Warning against the spread of false, unverified information and hateful content on social media, the Prime Minister urged citizens to rely only on official information. He said the government would take strict action against anyone attempting to create chaos and disrupt Nepal’s long-standing tradition of social harmony and brotherhood.
“No religion or culture in the world teaches violence, hatred, and division,” Shah said. “The essence of all religions is compassion, mercy, and peace.”
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to protecting the religious and cultural rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal, he appealed to the public not to fuel a cycle of revenge.
At the conclusion of his address, the Prime Minister made a brief appeal in the Maithili language, calling on civil society, religious leaders, and political parties to act with patience and responsibility.
Stating that national unity and social harmony are Nepal’s greatest strengths, he urged all citizens to work together to dispel the atmosphere of unrest and maintain peace across the country.
