KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Balen Shah is set to address the nation on Thursday afternoon, five days after tensions erupted in Sunsari.
Shah is scheduled to address the country after sending Home Minister Sudan Gurung to Sunsari, where tensions between two communities began in Kaptanganj of Dewanganj Rural Municipality. Health Minister Nisha Mehta is also accompanying Gurung to the affected area.
Shah had issued a statement on social media only on Wednesday, pledging action against those responsible for the Sunsari incident.
Expressing grief over the incident, he had pledged to ensure justice for the families of those who lost their lives, provide compensation to the victims and take legal action against those responsible. However, the government has yet to announce any compensation.
In his social media statement, Shah said the government understands the pain of the affected families and remains committed to providing justice and compensation.
His televised address to the nation is now scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
