RSP lawmaker Jha says federal government failed to address security concerns

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Manish Jha has said the federal government has failed to adequately address security sensitivities following recent incidents in Madhes.

Speaking to journalists at the Federal Parliament building in Singha Durbar on Thursday, Jha said the developments in various parts of Madhes were a worrying sign and that the government’s response had not been sufficient.

He said the state’s level of preparedness and response after the Sunsari incident appeared inadequate.

Jha also said the government showed shortcomings in providing support to the family of Om Prakash Mehta, who died in the Sunsari violence, including issues related to condolences, compensation and a dignified funeral.

He added that lawmakers from Madhes Province had met with RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane and briefed him about the security situation and concerns in the region.
