Thunderstorms and heavy rain expected across Nepal today



KATHMANDU: Monsoon activity remains active across Nepal, with the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and possible snowfall in the higher Himalayan region today.

At present, the weather is generally cloudy in Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces. The Terai areas of Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces are partly cloudy. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring at a few places in Bagmati Province and at some places in Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Karnali provinces.

The Department has forecast generally cloudy conditions across the country this afternoon. There is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain and snowfall at a few places in the mountainous region. Some places in the hilly region are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

According to the weather bulletin, moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the Terai areas of Koshi and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at a few places in the Terai areas of Madhes Province and Bagmati, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces.

Heavy rainfall is also possible at one or two places in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces, as well as at one or two places in the hilly areas of Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. Moderate to heavy rain and snowfall are likely at a few places in the mountainous and hilly regions.

The Department has further stated that moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning is likely at some places in the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim provinces, and at a few places in the Terai areas of Madhes and Lumbini provinces.

Similarly, heavy rainfall is possible at one or two places in the hilly areas of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces.
