KATHMANDU: With the onset of the monsoon season, authorities have placed heavy equipment and personnel on standby to prevent disruptions along the prone-to-landslide Narayanghat–Muglin road section.
The Road Division Office Bharatpur said it has prepared machinery and operators across its jurisdiction, including the Narayanghat–Muglin stretch and the Kaligandaki Corridor, to respond quickly to landslides and road blockages.
According to Senior Divisional Engineer Narayan Lamichhane, equipment has been strategically deployed in high-risk areas to ensure immediate clearance of debris and uninterrupted traffic flow during the rainy season.
He said one loader has been stationed at the Muglin camp, while at the Seti Dobhan camp, one excavator, one loader and one backhoe loader have been kept ready. In addition, one backhoe loader is stationed at the Road Division office premises and another loader has been deployed along the Kaligandaki Corridor.
The office said teams of operators will remain on standby 24 hours a day to ensure quick removal of landslide debris and smooth restoration of traffic in case of road blockages.
The Narayanghat–Muglin road, a key route connecting Kathmandu to the rest of the country, frequently faces disruptions during the monsoon due to landslides and mudflows, and during the dry season due to dry landslides.
More than 10,000 vehicles travel through the section daily, making it one of the most critical highways in Nepal’s transport network.
