Federal, Madhesh leaders agree on stronger coordination to address local governance challenges

KATHMANDU: Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal and Krishna Prasad Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, have agreed on the need for stronger coordination among the federal, provincial and local governments to resolve administrative and management challenges facing local bodies.

According to the ministry, the agreement was reached during a meeting held in Kathmandu, where the two leaders discussed issues related to employee management, staffing adjustments, local budget formulation, and other administrative challenges encountered by local governments.

During the discussion, Chief Minister Yadav said he was aware of the problems facing local governments and pledged that the Madhesh provincial government would take the necessary initiatives to help address them.

Minister Rawal said the ministry had deployed teams led by three joint secretaries to various municipalities to facilitate coordination and support the local budget formulation process.

She said the teams had held consultations with mayors, deputy mayors and other local officials while collecting first-hand information on the problems, needs and challenges faced by local governments.

Rawal stressed that the ministry would continue efforts to make local governments more organized, effective and citizen-oriented. She also emphasized that stronger coordination among the federal, provincial and local levels is essential to achieving that objective.

The meeting was attended by the ministry’s secretary, joint secretaries and Rahabar Ansari, a member of the House of Representatives, among other officials.
