Susta residents arrive in Kathmandu demanding citizenship and land ownership, citing harassment by Indian security forces

KATHMANDU: Residents from Susta in Nawalparasi, have arrived in Kathmandu, raising concerns over border-related issues and alleged difficulties faced from Indian security personnel, and demanding citizenship certificates and land ownership documents.

The group of locals reached the federal capital following recent public remarks made by the Prime Minister regarding the border issue, which were followed by statements from a minister. Soon after these developments, the residents said they experienced increased hardship and uncertainty in their daily lives, prompting them to come to Kathmandu to seek government attention.

According to the protest organizers, Indian security forces have created difficulties for local residents living in the Susta area, affecting their mobility and access to basic services. They claim that long-standing border disputes have left many families without proper citizenship documentation and legal ownership of their land.

The residents have announced that they will begin a peaceful sit-in protest at Maitighar Mandala starting today. They stated that the demonstration will continue until the government addresses their demands, which include the immediate distribution of citizenship certificates and official recognition of land ownership through legal documents.
