Heavy rain, thunder and lightning likely today



KATHMANDU: Nepal is currently under the influence of a western low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere along with local winds and a trough extending from west to east across the country.

At present, Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces are fully cloudy, while the hilly and mountainous regions of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces are mostly cloudy. Other parts of the Terai remain partly cloudy, with moderate rainfall reported at isolated locations in Koshi, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, conditions will remain generally cloudy across the country this afternoon. Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is likely in parts of Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as in several areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki and Madhesh provinces.

Light to moderate snowfall is also expected in some high Himalayan regions. Gusty winds may occur in parts of the Terai and hilly areas.

Tonight, hilly and mountainous regions, including Sudurpaschim Province, will remain generally cloudy, while other areas will see partly cloudy conditions. Light rain and snowfall are possible at a few locations in the high hills and mountains of Sudurpaschim, Karnali, Gandaki, Koshi, Bagmati and Lumbini provinces.
