Squatters leave Kapan area as eviction drive intensifies in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Residents of a squatter settlement in the Saat Talle area of Kapan, Budhanilkantha Municipality, have begun leaving their homes ahead of an eviction drive by the PM Balendra Shah-led government.

The squatters living near the Dhobi Khola corridor have started relocating their belongings after authorities issued notices informing them of planned demolition using excavators.

The government is preparing to remove all illegal settlements along river corridors across Kathmandu Valley from Friday.

Following the notice, affected families were seen packing up their belongings and moving out, marking the start of a wider eviction process in the area.
