KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has penalised 2,489 drivers for violating traffic rules within a 24-hour period.
According to the office, the action generated Rs 2.27 million in revenue for the state treasury.
Among those penalised, 49 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol, while 258 were booked for operating ride-sharing services illegally. Similarly, 170 drivers were fined for violating traffic signals and 112 for overspeeding.
The office also took action against 325 drivers for failing to follow lane discipline, 64 for honking in restricted areas, and 121 for parking vehicles on footpaths.
In addition, 62 drivers were penalised for picking up and dropping off passengers at undesignated locations, while 1,328 others faced action for various traffic rule violations.
