Rescue of street-dependent people begins in Lumbini Province

LUMBINI: Manav Sewa Ashram has launched the 2082 rescue campaign with the goal of making Lumbini Province free of street-dependent people.

The ashram stated that the initiative aims to rescue and provide protection to destitute and helpless individuals living difficult lives on the streets across the province.

The campaign will cover 12 districts: Bardiya, Banke, Dang, Rukum East, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Kapilvastu, Nawalparasi (West), and Rupandehi.

On the first day of the campaign, Sunday, the rescue team focused on Bardiya district and rescued two individuals while searching for street-dependent people, according to the ashram’s media representative, Bhagyashree Khadka.

During the rescue, individuals will be identified based on their circumstances, including homelessness, disability, helplessness, absence of guardians, and physical or mental weakness.

The ashram said that rescued individuals will be placed under the care of its various branches and provided with a dignified living environment along with necessary treatment.

The rescue team will work in collaboration with local authorities, police, social organizations, and other stakeholders to gather commitments for building a street-dependent-free Lumbini Province. The campaign also seeks to make local authorities responsible for managing street-dependent populations in their areas.

Manav Sewa Ashram has urged the public to immediately inform the nearest police station or rescue team if they encounter individuals living on the streets in unsafe conditions anywhere in the province.

The ashram has been continuously involved in rescuing, treating, nurturing, protecting, and, whenever possible, reuniting with families those forced to live on open streets or public spaces, including destitute, helpless, disabled, guardianless, and physically or mentally weak individuals.
