Langtang Valley trek reopens after construction of alternative routes

RASUWA: The Langtang Valley trekking route has reopened following the construction of alternative trails to ensure the safety of trekkers after flash floods damaged key infrastructure in the region.

Although the Bhotekoshi River flood damaged sections of the Pasang Lhamu Highway and infrastructure around Syafrubesi, alternative trekking routes have been developed to allow tourists to access the popular destination safely.

The reopening of the world-renowned trekking route, which had been disrupted by the flash floods, has brought relief and excitement to local residents and tourism entrepreneurs.

The alternative trails were constructed through the initiatives of the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) and local governments.

Tourists can now travel from Dhunche to Bamboo, Lama Hotel and Langtang village via Thulo Bharkhu, Brabal and Thulo Syafru.

Dindu Jyangba Tamang, chairperson of Ward No. 4 of Gosainkunda Rural Municipality, said the alternative routes had been made safe despite the damage caused by the disaster.

“Although the disaster damaged the trekking trails, we have now made alternative routes safe. Teahouses, hotels and local entrepreneurs are fully prepared to welcome tourists to Langtang Valley,” Tamang said.

He stressed that the arrival of both domestic and international trekkers would be crucial to revitalizing the local economy and supporting the economic recovery of the disaster-affected Indigenous Tamang community.

Although the natural disaster severely affected tourism businesses and local livelihoods, trekking guides and other tourism entrepreneurs are optimistic following the reopening of the alternative routes.

The resumption of trekking is expected to help revive tourism activities, restore local income sources and accelerate recovery in the Langtang region.
