KATHMANDU: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dan Bahadur Karki has convened an emergency meeting of the Policy Coordination Committee (PCC).
The meeting is scheduled for 2:00 PM at Police Headquarters and will be attended by Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs) serving as police chiefs in all seven provinces. Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) stationed within the Kathmandu Valley have also been summoned.
Typically, PCC meetings are attended by DIGs and Additional Inspectors General of Police (AIGs) based in the Kathmandu Valley. However, sources at Police Headquarters said that, on this occasion, SSPs and DIGs from outside the Valley had also been called to attend.
According to sources, the meeting will focus on matters related to peace and security. PCC meetings are generally convened to discuss organizational affairs, including policy decisions and the formulation of a common institutional position. However, the focus of this meeting on peace and security marks a departure from the committee’s usual agenda.
IGP Karki has called the emergency meeting amid reports of deteriorating relations between him and the government, as well as speculation that the Prime Minister intends to remove him from his post.
