KATHMANDU: A total of 637 climbers have obtained permits to climb 18 mountains in Nepal during the autumn 2026 climbing season.
According to the Department of Tourism, the climbers are from 68 teams. Of the total, 474 are men and 163 are women.
Department Information Officer Suraj Ghimire said the department has collected Rs 238.5 million in royalties from the climbing permits issued for the 18 mountains.
Manaslu (8,163 metres) has attracted the highest number of climbers. A total of 500 climbers from 43 teams have obtained permits to climb Manaslu alone. The department has collected Rs 225.86 million in royalties from these permits.
According to the department, 34 climbers from four teams have obtained permits for Dhaulagiri I, 20 climbers from two teams for Putha Hiunchuli, 16 climbers from two teams for Danga Hiunchuli, and 10 climbers from one team for Baruntse.
Similarly, climbing permits have been issued for mountains including Makalu, Gangapurna West (Long Channel), Thorong Peak, Norbu Khang, Annapurna IV, Chamlang, Lamjung Himal, Pumori, Saribung, Thapa Peak (Dhampus), Pokhar Khang, Ardang and Peri.
The department said the permits issued for the 18 mountains have generated approximately US$1.568 million, equivalent to Rs 238.517 million.
