KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal held a bilateral meeting with Sri Lankan Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath in New York today.
Khanal, who is in New York to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly, met his Sri Lankan counterpart on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, according to his secretariat.
The two ministers discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral relations between Nepal and Sri Lanka. During the meeting, Khanal expressed sympathy and solidarity with communities affected by the recent climate-related disasters in Nepal and thanked the Sri Lankan government and people for providing economic and humanitarian assistance.
The ministers also exchanged views on various aspects of the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.
They emphasized the need to convene meetings of existing bilateral mechanisms and expressed their commitment to expanding and strengthening cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, tourism, education, culture, communication networks, and people-to-people relations.
