KATHMANDU: A total of 537 employees and workers at nine hydropower projects remain unaccounted for following the flooding of the Bhotekoshi River.
According to the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN), 898 people working at nine hydropower projects in Rasuwa and Nuwakot were initially reported missing. Of them, 361 have been rescued so far.
At the 216-MW Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project, 576 people were reported missing, of whom 254 have been rescued. Around 300 workers and employees are still believed to be trapped inside the project’s tunnel, where search operations are underway.
Similarly, 93 people remain unaccounted for at the 111-MW Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project.
IPPAN said four people remain missing from the Rasuwa Bhotekoshi Hydropower Project, while 42 were reported missing from the Langtang Khola Hydropower Project, of whom 18 have been rescued.
Eight people remain missing from Chilime Hydropower, seven from Mailung Khola Hydropower, one from Trishuli Hydropower and one from Devighat Hydropower.
Meanwhile, 42 people are unaccounted for from the Upper Trishuli-3A Hydropower Project.
At the Upper Trishuli-3B Hydropower Project, 122 people were initially reported missing, of whom 91 have been rescued alive.
Two people remain unaccounted for from the Middle Trishuli Ganga Hydropower Project.
