RASUWA: Rescue efforts have intensified to evacuate workers trapped inside the tunnel of the Trishuli-3A Hydropower Project in Rasuwa, with reports indicating that a rescue team has managed to reach the tunnel.
The first controlled blast carried out on Saturday as part of the rescue operation was completed successfully. Two excavators are currently being used to clear the tunnel entrance and remove debris.
A joint team of the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force Nepal and Nepal Police has been using drilling machines, excavators and other equipment to locate the outer section of the tunnel and open an access route.
The rescue team has been clearing mud and debris accumulated inside the tunnel to create a passage towards the trapped workers. Efforts to open the tunnel entrance have been intensified since early Saturday morning.
The government mobilised rescue teams on a priority basis after receiving information that people were trapped inside the tunnel. A joint team of 82 personnel, including 62 from the Nepali Army and 20 from the Armed Police Force and Nepal Police, has been involved in the rescue operation since Friday night.
Following the successful controlled blast, two excavators have been deployed to remove additional debris. Drilling machines and other technical equipment are also being used to assess conditions inside the tunnel and determine the safest access route.
Meanwhile, an Indian rescue team that arrived in Nepal to assist with the operation has also reached Trishuli. The team conducted an initial aerial assessment of the Chilime and Langtang areas by helicopter and is preparing to provide further assistance as required.
The Trishuli-3A project infrastructure and tunnel area sustained significant damage following the devastating floods in Rasuwa several days ago. Adverse weather, mud and debris have made the rescue operation particularly challenging.
However, reports that a rescue team has managed to reach as far as the trapped workers have raised hopes of successfully rescuing the remaining people.
Rescue teams continue their efforts to bring all those trapped inside the tunnel out safely.
