RASUWA: The government has intensified search and rescue efforts to locate and rescue people believed to be trapped inside the tunnel of the Trishuli-3 ‘A’ Hydropower Project in Rasuwa.
After receiving information that people were trapped inside the tunnel, authorities intensified efforts to clear the tunnel entrance from Saturday morning. Rescue teams have been working at the site for the past two days.
A joint rescue team from the security agencies has been mobilized on a priority basis to clear mud and debris blocking the tunnel entrance and gain access to the tunnel.
A total of 82 personnel, including 62 from the Nepali Army and 20 from the Armed Police Force Nepal and Nepal Police, have been continuously deployed at the site since Friday night to strengthen the search and rescue operation.
However, adverse weather conditions have made the rescue operation challenging. Officials said the rescue teams are working under difficult conditions due to the accumulation of mud and debris at the tunnel entrance, as well as the unfavorable weather.
Meanwhile, an Indian team that arrived in Nepal to assist with the rescue operation has reached Trishuli. The team is preparing to conduct an initial aerial reconnaissance of the Chilime and Langtang areas by helicopter.
Based on information gathered during the aerial reconnaissance, the Indian team plans to assess the situation and carry out further search and rescue operations as necessary.
The government said it has mobilized all available resources and is continuing rescue efforts, with the rescue of people trapped inside the tunnel remaining the top priority.
