Govt appeals to financially capable citizens to forgo old-age allowance

KATHMANDU: The government has appealed to financially capable citizens to voluntarily give up old-age allowances under the social security programme.

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle made the announcement while presenting the budget for fiscal year 2026/27 in a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday.

He said that allowing financially well-off individuals to opt out of the allowance system would help channel public resources toward more needy and vulnerable groups.
