Govt targets 1,000 km of road blacktopping, allocates Rs 37.46 billion for East-West Highway upgrade



KATHMANDU: The government has announced plans to blacktop 1,000 kilometres of roads in the upcoming fiscal year.

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle made the announcement while presenting the budget for fiscal year 2026/27 in the Federal Parliament.

He also said that Rs 37.46 billion has been allocated for the upgrading of the East-West Highway, one of the country’s major transport corridors.

The announcement is part of the government’s broader infrastructure development plan aimed at improving national connectivity and transport efficiency.
