NEA to adopt ‘take-and-pay’ power purchase model, 10 projects to get PPA



KATHMANDU: The government has announced that the Nepal Electricity Authority will adopt a “take-and-pay” model for electricity purchase.

Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle made the announcement while presenting the budget for fiscal year 2026/27in the Federal Parliament.

He said the new mechanism would help make power purchase agreements more flexible and financially sustainable for the energy sector.

The government also announced that power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 10 hydropower projects will be signed immediately.

The move is expected to support investment in the hydropower sector and improve long-term energy management in the country.
